Christ Exalting Singleness

Written by Doreen B.

One day while I was driving home from town, I turned the radio on to see if there was anything good to listen to.  I believe that it was God's desire for me to do this because there was a message on that I needed to hear, and that every single woman should hear.  John Piper was speaking and right away caught my attention.  He was talking about Christ exalting singleness and how there is a purpose for being single.  After listening to the message God laid it on my heart to tell all of you about what He showed me through this.

When we are living a life of Christ exalting singleness, we are a testimony to the people around us that regeneration of faith is more important then the propagation of sex.  In other words, Christ making us new through faith in Him, is more to us then having a physical relationship with someone.  It shows that a relationship with Jesus Christ is of more value then a family of our own.  I know that having a family would be awesome, and I would like to be able to have one some day, but while we are single, we can show others that Christ is more important to us.  This is how it should be, even if we get married, because Jesus is to be central in our lives.

We need to find everything we need in Jesus; He is our All in All.  By being willing to do this, simply to only need and desire Jesus Christ, it tells those present with us something about our Savior.  It shows them that He is not just a friend or someone that can help us out sometimes, but rather that he is EVERYTHING!! We don't need anyone else, and we can live our whole life with only Him.  I am not perfect in the least about going only to Jesus for everything, but this message was a great encouragement to me.  It showed me once again that there is a purpose to being single.  It is not only waiting until the "perfect" someone comes around, but rather living everyday only for our perfect Savior.

I once heard someone say that we need to live for an audience of One.  This has stuck with me for years.  Does it matter what others think about us?  We need to only be trying to please Jesus Christ.  It only really matters if He agrees with what we are doing.

So I just want to encourage all of you to use these next years, or months as it may be for some, to only need Jesus.  To only desire Jesus and to only live to please Jesus.  Remember, "He is EVERYTHING to me!"
