Desiring Our Valentine
Written by Doreen B.
As I pondered the Lord as my Valentine, He brought to mind the book of Song of Solomon, so I read it. I came across chapter 3:1-4, which says: "By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him. 'I will rise now,' I said, 'And go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love.' I sought him, but I did not find him. The watchmen who go about the city found me; I said, ' Have you seen the one I love?' Scarcely had I passed by them, When I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go, Until I had brought him to the house of my mother, And into the chamber of her who conceived me."
Through this the Lord reminded me that I should desire Him as greatly as this couple desires each other. She desires her beloved so much that sleep doesn't matter to her and she would rather go into the streets to find him, whom she loves so much. Upon finding him she embraces him and won't let him go. Wow, I should desire the Lord in such a way. He should be the main flow of all my thoughts, even at times when we naturally would be doing something like sleeping, although how rarely this is the case, sad to say.
To make God my true Valentine I must find great joy and pleasure in Him. When my heart truly wants Him, then my thoughts will be about Him.
Needless to say, I don't always long for Him as I ought, but this is my desire, to be wholly consumed by my Saviour and Lord.. On Valentine's Day our thoughts are of the ones we love, and we try to please them with our actions. There is not a better day than Valentines to once again be filled with love for Jesus Christ. After all, He is our first love. Help me Father to live for You alone and to make You my true Valentine.
I love YOU Jesus!
