“Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Proverbs 29:18
Of the five senses that we have, which one would you go without?—Taste, Smell, Sight, Touch, and Hearing. This devotional is about one of those senses: SIGHT
V I S I O N

What is missing? Two “I”s. It takes two “I”s to have vision.
What should we be focusing on? Earthly or Eternal???? ETERNAL THINGS
We need to get a vision for what God has for us to do. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t fulfill your dream. I have had a vision since I was twelve years old that I wanted to go to a Spanish speaking country to minister to those who don’t know Christ.
Can you accomplish something of importance if you do not have a vision? Of course not. I Samuel 3:1 talks about how Samuel ministered as a child unto Eli because the word of the Lord was precious unto him. He had a vision to share what God was showing him.
Over the past week, the Lord has really been teaching me about vision. I have been studying this out for quite sometime as it became apparent to me this summer. I mentioned earlier that I have had a vision for the Spanish-speaking countries since I was twelve. The Lord began opening the doors for me this summer, as I was accepted to be a missionary to Honduras under Baptist International Missions Incorporated. Proverbs 29:18 has become my theme verse while on deputation, as I know that without following the vision of reaching these people, they are going to perish without hearing of God. “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” Another vision I have always had was to be married and have children I could love. The Lord has not answered the vision of being married, but He has answered the vision of loving children by opening the door for me to work in an orphanage where children have no love and no one to dry their tears.
There are four main types of vision: Nearsightedness, Farsightedness, Tunnel Vision, and Blindness. You may ask, “How does this all applies to me?” Well, I will gladly tell you.
Christmas Eve, I found myself fighting scratchy eyes that would not be comforted with anything for two days. I then called a doctor thinking I had pink eye. After treating that for the weekend, and still having no relief, I called my eye specialist. After seeing him, I was told that I did not have pink eye, but a major eye infection. So, now I cannot wear my contacts for a month. L
During this week, I have experienced all four types of vision. Nearsightedness: I couldn’t see far away. I was only able to see what was very close to me. Farsightedness: I began with this in that I could see the far objects, but couldn’t really focus on the close up objects. Tunnel Vision: I could only see through a very small portion of my eyes. Blindness: There were times where I felt I couldn’t see anything at all. It was all very blurry even with my glasses.
You may ask, “How does this apply to me spiritually?” Here it is.
Nearsightedness: You have no dream or a vision of what is in the future. You only focus on what is happening right now.
Farsightedness: You have a dream, but you don’t focus on how to prepare right now.
Tunnel Vision: Sometimes God will send us through trying times to get our focus back on Him.
Blindness: Sometimes we need to ask God to take away the vision so that we can refocus our lives.
The devil wants to destroy us when we are actually doing something for the Lord. However, God wants to lead us, but we must let Him. We cannot do it on our own accord. God may have to take away our vision in order to show us where we are not reaching out to others. There are many examples of this in Scripture. One that comes to mind is Saul. He had to lose his vision so that God could show him where he needed to change his own life.
As I was studying this out, I found that Amos 8:11-12 is apparent of what is happening in our days. It says, “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.”
What are we doing to share this vision of what God has given us? How are we reflecting Christ through this vision to others? Are we hiding our candles so that God can’t use us? I pray that this will be an encouragement to you as it has been to me. If I can do anything for you, or pray with you regarding something, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
