Having Pure Thoughts
Written by Andrea W.

"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God," (Matthew 5:8).

God has worked so much in my life on the topic of having pure thoughts. I have to admit there was a time I struggled immensely with not having pure thoughts. Now don’t get me wrong, I have by no means perfected this area, for I sure struggle. Let’s face it, as girls don’t we all struggle in one area or another when it comes to having pure thoughts? I have learned so much, but one of the biggest things is that God is so good, even when I fail.

I really learned how to concur my struggles when I realized that I was not putting God first in my life by making Him my first priority and best friend. God wants us to come to Him and thank Him for the hard times we had that day, or tell Him the little things that happened to us that day. It was hard for me at first (I am a visual person), I could not see God or for that matter hear Him. I had to work on that by seeing Him work in the things in my life, and by hearing His still small voice in making decisions. I am far from having it perfect, but you know God is faithful. So often we turn our backs away from Him, and He sits there and waits for us to turn back, cry out for forgiveness, and ask for His help.

When I started realizing that I needed Jesus to be my best friend, someone e-mailed me this story -- it was perfect timing, and no doubt it was God’s timing. So I pray it is as encouraging to you as it was, and still is, for me!

The Room

“Dan decided he wanted God to be His best friend one day, so he told God, “Ok, God I want You to be my best friend, can we meet here in this room by the fire and read the Bible together?” And the Lord smiled at him and said, “I would love that. I will be here every morning waiting for you.”

So the first week Dan was very excited and on time, even sometimes early, to meet with his best friend. Then one day he woke up a little late and came in tired and not all with it. The next day he decided he would go in later but never went. And then as the days went on he would walk by the door and not even take time to look in, and for that matter go in.

Then one day he was walking by the room and saw a shadow. He opened the door and saw a person sitting by the fire with a book in his hands. He walked closer and saw that it was Jesus sitting there with the Bible in His hands. “Oh my Lord! Have you been here the whole time?” Jesus looked at him with a smile and said, “Yes, I told you I would be here every morning waiting for you to read the Bible with Me.” Looking at his shoes Dan said sadly, “I failed you my Lord.” Jesus took his hand and said in a tender voice, “Yes, but I will always forgive, and will never leave you. I will always be waiting right here for you.” So Dan sat down next to Jesus and they read the Bible together. And from that day on Dan never forgot a day to go into that room and spend time with his Best Friend.”

I find myself doing this to Jesus, when I say that I am going to do something with Him, but then find myself slacking off as the days go on. I’ve found that even in my unfaithfulness, Jesus is always there waiting for me every day. It’s amazing that even though I fail Him over and over again, He is right there waiting, waiting for you and me!! His love is THAT great!

Like I said before, I still struggle with my thoughts, but I know Jesus is right there to lift me up and encourage me. I want to encourage you girls that might be struggling with your own emotional thoughts to get with Jesus and make Him your best friend. I’d challenge each of you to ask a friend or a sibling to be your accountability partner. (2 Samuel 22:27 "With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.") I know that this has really helped me to have someone right there to ask me how I am doing, and for me to be able to just tell her, “I was struggling today, pray for me,” knowing that she will. It’s also important to make sure your Dad has your heart, for God has given us our parents to protect us from Satan getting a grip on each of our hearts!

This is so important girls! I will be praying for you all!
