The Importance of Purity of Thoughts
Written by Elissa B.

We are what we think! That is why keeping our thought life pure is so important. If we think sinful, wicked thoughts our lives will be giving out fruit from that type of thought life. But if our thoughts are kind and good thoughts, our fruit can be godly ones.

Satan tries to deceive us into believing that sin isn't that bad and tries to make it look appealing to us. He makes the consequences for both our actions and thoughts seem very small, if even that. He makes it seem that the consequences are non-existent so that we think that sin is okay to do and that it doesn't hurt anyone, when it really does. It hurts God more than anyone!

We must protect our mind and our heart from unclean thoughts and actions. One way we can do that is to protect our eyes and ears from any wicked thing. Our eyes and ears are how Satan can deceive us into doing and thinking things. They are very vulnerable.

There is so much "garbage" floating around in this world today, and we are seeing and hearing a lot of it even when we don't want to. We must have strong standards for ourselves otherwise our own heart will deceive us! (Jeremiah. 17:9) What we think will either move us toward God or away from God. Which way is your life going? Are you drawing near to God or are you drifting away from Him?

Psalm 101:3 says, "I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me."

Many good men and women have fallen because their impure thoughts turned into impure actions. Even in the beginning, when Noah and his family were one of the few family's that were faithful to God, the people around them were living by their impure thoughts. It's the same way today, but we ourselves can be like Noah, a faithful servant of God.

Genesis 6:5 - "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."

We must search our own hearts and bring our thoughts before God. He knows our thoughts already. He knows our heart and what we are really like. We must focus our lives around the Lord and keep accountable to Him.

"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:23-24)

Keep your hearts and thoughts pure!
