The Importance of Purity in Actions
Written by Elissa B.
I believe that actions show who we truly are, or who we want others to think we are. You can act like a God-loving Christian, but inside your heart you can be completely rebelling against God. We can make a pretty good act in fooling people, but God looks on the inside and knows our true heart.
Our lives as Christian young ladies reflect the Lord Jesus Christ. Many times I think we give God a bad image, because our fleshly desires get in the way. We often are too concerned about our reputation or personal issues to even think that whatever we think, say, or do reflects the God in our heart and life.
Our actions really do matter! God's Word says that we shall be known by our fruits. Matthew 7:20 - "Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.." If our actions are ones that don't honor God, those who know us will not be able to see a correct reflection of God in us. God is the only One who truly matters in this life. That is why we are here on this earth! We are here to grow in Him, to serve Him, and to tell others about Him. Often we get our priorities mixed up, and then we end up putting God off until we get even the most "dismal" things done--such as homework or chores around the house. This is displeasing to God, yet I have done that exact thing in my own life. God knows our hearts perfectly. We need to be willing to search our hearts. Be open to God, and be willing to know that what you are doing, or aren't doing, is wrong and needs changing!
Because people know us by what we do, it is very important to keep our actions pure. When you see someone doing something wrong, such as stealing, you automatically have a sense of what type of person they are. The same goes for someone who hands out tracts everywhere they go. You almost feel as if you "know" what type of person they are, even though you may have never seen them before. Others are watching your actions and by them judging who you are. Our actions portray who we are. If they aren't godly actions, our godly testimony will be ruined.
Be pure in your heart and in your actions!
1 Timothy 4:12 - "Let no man despise thy youth; but be
thou an example of the believers, in word, in
conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in
purity."
