Praying for Your Husband-to-be
Written by Trish S.

One of the most important ways that you can prepare for marriage is by praying for your future spouse. When the thought of praying for your future husband comes up, thoughts of, " what do I pray for?" and "do I have a responsibility to pray for him?" come to mind. To begin with, yes-- you have a responsibility to pray for your future husband. The Bible commands us to pray always for all men and especially for those in leadership positions. Well, our future husbands will definitely qualify as leaders! This is the person with whom you will live the rest of your life and to whom you will submit. That is so vitally important, and so is his development now of Christ-like character and a Godly heart. I think we
would all agree that wives should bring their husbands before God's throne everyday. However, this does not just happen automatically after you are married. It is a well-developed habit that you can begin to cultivate today--by praying for your future mate. Pray that your husband-to-be will right now be establishing good values, standards and habits in his life. Pray that God will give him wisdom as he makes decisions. Just think, choices that your husband makes in his teen and college years affect him throughout the rest of his life- and you will be a part of that! Pray through passages that list attributes of the godly leader such as in I Timothy 3 and Titus 1 and ask the Lord to instill those characteristics into your husband-to-be. Today, your future husband is becoming the leader he will be in your family. So pray for him. Pray faithfully everyday, and remember that the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man will avail much.
