Purity of Dress
Written by Sarah Ann E.

Dress. Some of you may cringe when you think about it being the topic for this issue. Well, this really is a VERY important thing that NEEDS to be discussed. So, bear with me and read every word.

Does your dress show that you are a Christian or do you "fit in" ? We should not only "act" like a Christian, but we need to outwardly show that we are a Christian. In 1 Corinthians 16:19-20 the Lord says that our bodies are His temple. We are instructed to GLORIFY Him in our body. The worlds philosophy is so reveal the flesh, both in showing it and also showing it's outline. We need to stay away from anything that would draw attention to ourselves. Our goal as Christians is to point to Christ, not to our flesh. We also need to make a distinct difference in our dress from a man. Wear feminine styled clothing, and cuts. We should not wear clothes that accent the wrong places. Femininity is not wearing clothes that are just made for woman. Can others tell as a very slight glance that you are truly a lady, or do they have to take a double look? My philosophy is that if you cannot do things in a dress or skirt, acting feminine, then you shouldn't do it at all. Pants, I have to say, are sexy. Whether you realize it or not. They outline you pretty much from you hips down, making it attention drawing to guys. By the wrong clothes that we wear, we encourage men to sin at least in their thoughts. We should not be the cause of another to sin. If we truly are the Lord's we have to keep others from sin, not make them sin.

Another aspect to our dress is our make-up. Does our make up draw attention to ourselves? Do we wear lots of eye shadow, and draw attention to our eyelids? Do we put on too much blush, making it look like we are flirting? How about our lipstick? Loud, bold make-up draws attention to us, when we need to be drawing attention to our Lord. Put your make-up on in a manner that looks natural, not loud and bold. You don't want every guy that sees you to want to give you a big kiss, do you? If we wear too much make-up and dress in a worldly way, we will make guys think wrong thoughts and they may lead to the wrong actions.

I do not mean at all to be hounding you on what you can and cannot wear. I am placing this before you. Let the Lord show you what is right and wrong to wear and He will if you let Him. But do not use that to get by with the clothing that you know is wrong to wear. I am sure that you know when you are not wearing something that is modest.

My mother told me when I was a little girl to spend more time with my Lord in the morning, then getting myself pretty for the day. Now that is a really good thing to do. I have remembered it ever since and have tried my very best to follow it. Our goal is to become more like our Lord, and not to be the prettiest. If we truly love the Lord we will have an inward beauty that will radiate out.

Make it your main goal to be fashioned into our Lord's image, not the world's. After all that He has done for us, we are obligated to please Him.
