Seeking to Win
Written by Kisha I.
Last night I was having a little chat with one of my brothers about certain church practices and he made the comment that he is very impressed with the way a particular “church organization” goes about drawing people into their ranks. And I must admit that this is true; there are lots of people out there who are very dynamic, and perhaps even militant, in the way they get others to become members of their church. I say it like that for I cannot be very certain that these individuals really preach Christ and Him alone, yet from analyzing what they do and how they do it, I came to the following conclusions:
People tend to respond to a command when there’s some sort of pressure to get things done. When left to themselves, they would always take the easy way out and if there are a few willing to carry the burden, one can expect that the majority would be content to sit idly by or just simply go about their own business. Take this e-magazine for instance – I am writing this article because Sarah Ann once again needed to ask for submissions. It did not cross my mind to write anything this month, for somewhere in the back of my mind I think there is always someone there who’s willing to contribute something. So, there’s no need to give it any serious thought.
Sadly, I have to confess that I have taken that same attitude towards my responsibility as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ to win others to Him, to share the good news of salvation with others. I was content to just pray for those who are doing all the hard work. That for me was my part in the Lord’s Vineyard. After coming over to Mexico, I resorted to the excuse of not knowing enough Spanish to share the gospel. Ladies, I’ve realized that it’s very easy to come up with excuses for not sharing the gospel. Our adversary has lots of them and is always happy to share them with us.
Lately, the Lord has been dealing very strongly with me about the laxness I display about the command which He has given to me. I have run out of excuses and there may be a possibility that the Lord is going to put me under some “pressure” some time in the future. With that in mind, I am eager now to get the Word out. I am no longer willing to remain in the comfort of the cocoon of being saved and content to stay that way. I do not want to show up before my Lord empty handed.
The church organization, which I referred to at the beginning, is effective in what they do, for each person is expected to hand in a written report on their activities. We may not have to report to a pastor or leader about the number of people we talk to or share the gospel with but we have to report to the LORD Himself. It was His command; therefore, we are going to give an account to Him.
My dear sisters, there is an unbelievable spiritual need out there and we must allow the Lord to open our eyes and hearts so that we can see and respond accordingly. Our priorities are not that of securing a good job, getting good grades at school, being good citizens, or even preparing to be a godly wife and mother. That is not what the Lord commanded us to do. These are rather the “extras.” Our business is to seek first the kingdom of God. The extras—school, work, marriage, family, etc.—will be added to us in the Lord’s timing and according to His will. I have seen the Lord bless bountifully in all these areas, those who have dedicated their lives to spreading the gospel. Sisters, let us be more aware of the spiritual needs of others and let us take the Lord at His Word. Let us truly step out in the faith we claim to possess and let us win souls for the Lord.
The world is clamoring excessively for answers. People are looking for hope now more than ever and we have the answers. We know the Way. Let’s show them. Let’s love them as Jesus loved us. Let’s not wait until a difficult or painful situation calls us to focus on this our Christian duty. But rather let us willingly respond to the call to “go into all the world and preach the gospel.” Let’s be soul-winners.
