Setting Goals to be a Light
Written by Kayla W.
I have always had a heart to be a radiant young lady that shines for the Lord, to be different from the world and reflect Christ in my life. Yes, there are discouraging times and we may loose sight of our calling, but there are also exciting times. I am so blessed that the Lord has given me a purpose and vision so when I have low times I can refer back to the hope and purpose God has set before me.
Don’t you want to reflect Christ and make a difference this year? I believe it is important to have goals, but many times we set a goal and never follow through. Almost every year I set goals for the New Year. Do the goals get accomplished? Or does the list just grow year after year? What the Lord has taught me is that life is too short to set goals and never accomplish them. I desire to live a life that glorifies the Lord. I often set too many goals and never complete all of them. It’s like making a list and setting it on the shelf to collect dust. Don't you want to accomplish things? Don't you want to glorify God through them? There are always fun things on my list like scrap booking, organizing etc… But we should also make spiritual goals, and not just goals that sit on the dusty shelf, but actually make a difference.
There are so many opportunities and I believe it is such a sweet time to live for the Lord. You will not always have this precious time. Life goes on and as we get older, we will have more responsibilities that will require our time. When we look back, will we be able to say to God, “I accomplished this for you”? Or will you say, “I had great expectations of what you wanted me to do Lord, but they are still sitting in the dust.” I am convinced if I don't start accomplishing these things now, I never will.
Every year is the same unless you are willing to change it! “Lord give me the grace to accomplish Your goals for me and to work through me and humble me so I can accomplish great things for You.” Are we looking at eternity and asking what is going to matter 100 years from now? Ephesians 5:15-16 “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” I am convicted of this myself. Yet I am reminded of the joy that comes from living for the Lord and redeeming the time wisely.
How can we be a light? Philippians 2:15 states, “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.” Young ladies can have a tremendous impact in today’s world. The way we present ourselves can speak loudly. I Timothy 4:12 says, “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” It does not matter how old you are. We all need to rise up and reflect Christ in all we do. It is such a blessing to see young girls have purpose and live differently than our culture says we should live.
Elizabeth Elliot wrote this about Amy Carmichael: “The preoccupations of seventeen-year-old girls—their looks, their clothes, their social life—do not change very much from generation to generation. But in every generation there seem to be a few who make other choices. Amy was one of the few.”
Don’t you want to be one of the few who make other choices to live a pure life, to have a passion for Christ, to be an example to reflect Christ? Ladies, we can often get so caught up in the world. At times it can be difficult to find others who are teaching the higher standards. I Timothy 4:12 speaks so much to me because it is never to early too make a difference and set goals.
I say all this to encourage every young lady that to reflect Christ is such a rare jewel. I encourage everyone not only to make goals but to accomplish them in the Lord. Use your goals to reflect Christ. May we all enter into this year with goals to be a light in this world.
