Treasures in Heaven
Written by Mrs. Rebekah E.
We are to live our lives for the glory of God. We are to deny our self, take up our cross, and follow our Lord. It doesn't matter what the Lord has for us, when we rest in His all sufficient grace and in the knowledge that if we "trust in the Lord with all our heart and lean not unto our own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge Him [then] He shall direct our paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6). Faithfully follow your Lord! We are admonished in Scripture to "store up [our] treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is there will your heart be also." (Matthew 6:20-21).
Ladies, it doesn't matter if we are single or married. We all have a single purpose for which we are to live, and that is to glorify the Lord, making Him the central focus of our lives that others may see Christ in us. Our lives need to recommend the Lord to others wherever we go. It is so easy to focus on the next BIG thing that we are waiting on the Lord for, such as a life's mate, a job, a ministry, a car, and finances. What the Lord wants us to focus on is Himself by spending time in His Word, communing with Him in prayer, and be obedient to Him in every little thing. We need to be doing these things right now, this moment, in this area of our lives. As we are obedient to Him and fully submissive to His will, then He can entrust us with more to do for Him and be for Him. "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So do not worry about tomorrow..." (Matthew 6:33-34a).
As you focus on your Lord, you will conduct yourself with wisdom and your speech will be with grace (Colossians 4:5-6). You will desire to do all things heartily as for the Lord and not to please men (Colossians 3:23). You will "adorn the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God" (I Peter 3:4). You will desire to be like the women that Timothy speaks of in I Timothy 2:9-10, "to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness." You will be willing to "quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness" (I Timothy 2:11).
May each of our lives show to the world that we are indeed chosen of God. Colossians 3:12-17 gives us the qualities of those who are chosen of God. "Those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus; giving thanks through Him to God the Father." This is my prayer for you!
May your life show to others that you desire to lay up
"treasures in heaven...
for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also!"
