"She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness." Proverbs 31:26
I looked up the words kind and kindness in the Webster's 1828 dictionary. It sure opened my eyes and taught me a lot! Kindness is all about putting others and their needs in first priority above yours, and cheerfully delighting in it. It's being a giver and not a taker, the opposite of being selfish which requires you to make a choice —- an act of your will. Life is all about serving others, and it's not about us at all, it's all about Him. This paints such a beautiful picture in my mind, one of our loving Savior and Lord and one of a caring Mother. The Lord is the perfect example of kindness, and if we are Christians, then we are filled with His spirit. One of the fruits of being a believer that others will see kindness in our lives. No, it won't always come easy so that's why we must ask the Lord to help us to be like Him more and more every day, and to treat others like He would. It's not going to be easy, but if we learn to be kind when we are tired, hurting or angry, it will be so much easier than waiting to learn it once you're married. My precious Mother is one of the kindest ladies I know. She has such a caring, merciful, loving heart. At times, she gets so little sleep, but still greets me in such a blessed way each morning. She always seems to be thinking about her children and husband. I hope someday that I will be known as a grateful and kind woman. Learn to treat your family like you would your husband and children… it's not going to change once you become Mrs. ...!
How can we learn to be kind? First, we need to ask the Lord for help. Every morning before you get out of bed, ask Him to put a guard before your mouth and heart and to have a heart after His own heart. Spend time in His word and memorize verses on kindness. No, I haven't mastered this, I too am still learning! 1 Corinthians 12:9-10 has become a precious verse to me: “And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” The Lord will help us in our weaknesses. It is through our weakness that we learn to trust in Him more! Let His love and light shine through you as you reach out and touch others lives for Him!
